Sex and Lucia

Sex and Lucia is a 2001 film that stars Paz Vega, Najwa Nimri, Tristan Ulloa, Daniel Friere and Elena Anaya. Paz Vega portrays the main role of Lucia. She is someone who works hard as a waitress and is wandering through life. She dates a man named Lorenzo who is suffering from depression.

One day after she calls him at work, she decides that he is acting strangely and sounds too distraught so she leaves halfway through her shift and returns home. She is stunned and becomes anxious when she sees that he is nowhere to be found.

A short time later, a police officer calls her and she finds Lorenzo’s suicide note. Before the officer can inform her of what has happened, she drops the phone and packs her bags. She decides that she will run away from her current everyday existence and go to the Balearic Islands. She chooses this destination because Lorenzo loved it there.

The movie begins to tell two stories. The first is six years prior before Lorenzo met Lucia. He is in the water and makes love to a woman named Elena. He does not know that she got pregnant from their tryst. Later on, he goes to a restaurant and sees his book agent. Lucia catches him and she tells him that she enjoyed reading his book and that she believes that she is in love with him.

Lorenzo likes the attention and begins seeing Lucia. He then finds out about his daughter Luna and goes to see her. He becomes close with her nanny too. One day, a dog kills Luna and this makes Lorenzo incredibly depressed and he writes it in his book. The second story is Lucia’s present life. She meets a man named Carlos who likes to scuba dive. She also meets Elena who is saddened by the loss of her daughter. The two become friends.
