Play or Die

Charley Palmer Rothwell, Roxane Mesquida, and Marie Zabukovec star in the 2019 horror thriller, Play or Die. The film is directed by Jacques Kluger, and tells the story of a group of young people who become trapped in an escape room game, with deadly consequences.

The movie begins with a group of friends, including the film's protagonist Lucas (Palmer Rothwell), attending an exclusive party at an underground club. Lucas is excited to be there, as the club is rumored to have the most innovative and challenging escape room games in the city. After some drinks and dancing, Lucas and his friends find themselves whisked away to a specially designed escape room challenge, themed around a horror movie.

While the group of friends initially views the challenge as a fun way to spend the night, they soon discover that the stakes are much higher than they initially realized. The escape room is controlled by a sinister figure known only as the Gamemaster (Mesquida), who is intent on keeping the players trapped in the game until they complete all of the challenges.

As the challenges become more and more difficult, the group begins to realize that the Gamemaster is not playing by the usual escape room rules. There seem to be supernatural forces at work, and players who fail to complete the challenges are subjected to gruesome punishments.

Lucas and his friends soon realize that the only way to escape the game is to work together and solve the puzzles as a team. However, tensions run high as suspicions begin to mount among the group. It becomes clear that the Gamemaster has designed the game not just to test the players' intelligence and agility, but also their ability to trust one another.

As the challenges become more perilous and the stakes higher, the group begins to suspect that the Gamemaster may have a greater agenda at play. Can they work together to escape the game before it's too late, or will their own mistrust and fear lead to their downfall?
