Miss Potter is the story of author Beatrix Potter's life. The movie shows how Beatrix was a natural story teller from a young age and how that creativity helped her become one of the most recognized children's authors in the world. Though not completely factual or realistic, Miss Potter manages to capture the essence of Beatrix Potter's work in a less fanciful format. Miss Potter focuses on the years Beatrix Potter spent making and publishing her first book, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit," and her burgeoning romance with her editor, Norman Warne. The young Beatrix must overcome her Victorian social standing and initial rejection to publish her book in the manner she sees fit. Norman, a new editor to the company publishing Beatrix's book, was assigned to her because it was believed her book would fail. As it turns out, Norman was exactly the editor "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" needed. Beatrix's romance with Norman and friendship with his sister, Millie, is wonderfully and realistically depicted. Of course, as this is a period Victorian film, the question of Norman's social standing versus Beatrix's are raised. Her family is seen as whole heartedly disapproving of the engagement, though are supportive when Norman's health takes a turn for the worse. Beatrix's resulting depression and recovery are tastefully realized with a little help from her characters and friends. The last part of the film takes place in the home Beatrix and Norman had bought to live their life together. The beginning of Beatrix's preservation work can be seen here. She buys up several farms instead of letting them fall into the hands of developers in order to keep the countryside whole and unbroken.
