La mujer de mi hermano

La Mujer de mi Hermano (My Brother's Wife) is a Mexican psychodrama movie written by Jaime Bayly and directed by Ricardo de Montreuil. The film features Barbara Mori, Christian Meier, Angelica Aragon and Manolo Cardona.

The story follows a very desperate housewife named Zoe (played by Barbara Mori) who has been married to Ignacio (played by Christian Meier) for over ten years. He is largely uninterested in having sex with her, agreeing to do it only on the weekend. The rest of the time, he is concerned only with his life as a professional businessman.

This complicates things for Zoe, who very much wants to have a child. However, Ignacio is not only disinterested in sex, but he is sterile. They live in a splendid, modern home. Gonzalo, Ignacio's brother (played by Manolo Cardona) is an alcoholic artist who, when he is not painting, is chasing women while mooching off his brother and his wife. Additionally, he treats his brother very badly, which he seems to tolerate.

Gonzalo is reckless. After attending a gallery show, Zoe buys one of his paintings. Gonzalo promptly throws it into the pool at the multi-million dollar mansion where they live. However, Gonzalo has some reasons for behaving this way.

Quite soon, Zoe and Gonzalo become involved in an illicit affair. As time goes on, they two become increasingly uncomfortable, though they are unable to resist each other, despite repeated attempts. It becomes apparent that Zoe has only two choices. She can remain with her emotionally and sexually detached husband in a passionless marriage, or try to make a life with his brother - a man who relies upon them for a living.

Ignacio starts to suspect that his wife is involved with someone else. Eventually, some very dark and disturbing secrets from the past are revealed. In the end, however, they are able to reconcile all of the angst that has preceded.
