Noises Off!

Noises Off! is a 1992 comedic movie about inept actors in a dysfunctional stage play based off the popular theater standard by English writer Michael Frayn. Adapted for the screen by Marty Kaplan and directed by Peter Bogdanovich, the film tells the tale of a clueless travelling theater group doing a stage production of Nothing On, a campy British sex farce. August Wilson, this is not! A play-within-a-play told in three parts, from final rehearsal to opening night and tour, the actors are distracted as much by the off-stage drama that develops as on. Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules) headlines as Lloyd Fellowes, the beleaguered director, with only Poppy Taylor (Julia Hagery), the Assistant Stage Manager, to help him keep the ludicrous troupe in order. Traveling from Iowa to Miami Beach and Cleveland, they are tasked with taming Dotty Otley (Carol Burnett), an absentminded middle-aged actress, Selsdon Mowbray (Denhold Elliot), an alcoholic who constantly can’t be found, Belindar Blair (Marilu Henner), a dependable but emotional actress, Frederick Dallas (Christopher Reeve), an actor afraid of his own shadow, Garry Lejeune (John Ritter), an actor whose stutter disappears only on-stage, and Brooke Ashton (Nicollette Sheridan), a small-minded and inexperienced blonde actress. The movie version of Noises Off! stays true to Michael Fayn’s theater play, for better or for worse, with it’s laugh-out-loud love triangles, witticisms, and classic situational comedy. MORE [EDIT]
