Gigante is not your typical romantic comedy. Jara (Horacio Camandule), a shy, overweight security guard at the supermarket, falls in love with Julia (Leonor Svarcas), an attractive young cleaning woman, when he sees her on the surveillance camera. Jara watches her through the cameras, follows her through the city of Montevideo and even spies on her when she is on a date. As time goes on, she becomes aware the he is there and is just waiting for him to work up the courage to talk to her. You truly grow to care for the clumsy Jara and the beautiful Julia as they hope for something more in their dreary lives. This touching look at love and isolation won many top awards at film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival.
