Audition is a 1999 horror film about a widower who gets involved with the wrong woman. Still mourning the death of his wife, Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) is encouraged by his son, Shigehiko (Tetsu Sawaki), to start dating again. One of Shigeharu's friends, Yasuhisa Yoshikawa (Jun Kunimura), suggests that he hold fake film auditions so that he can meet a wide variety of attractive women. Shigeharu agrees to do so and immediately falls for Asami Yamazaki (Eihi Shiina) after she auditions. Though his friend is wary of Asami, Shigeharu is enraptured by her and the two begin to date.
