Lion of Oz

Lion of Oz is a 2000 animated movie directed by Tim Deacon and based on the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. The movie, set prior to the events of the original story, follows the adventures of a young lion cub named Leo who dreams of being a brave and courageous lion like his father.

The movie begins with Leo's father, the king of the forest, announcing his retirement and declaring Leo as his successor. However, Leo feels unprepared and lacks the confidence to take on the role. He is mocked by his peers and is deemed as a coward.

In his attempt to prove his bravery to his father and peers, Leo sets out on a journey to meet the legendary swami in the Forbidden Territory, who is said to have the power to grant courage. Along the way, Leo encounters various obstacles and challenges, including a band of mischievous monkeys, a giant spider, and a villainous jester named Ziggy, who seeks to overthrow the king and take over the forest.

Throughout his journey, Leo is joined by a small band of allies including a cowardly crow named Gugu, a friendly robot named Rusty, and a wise old owl named Wimsik. Together, they navigate through the treacherous landscape and encounter a variety of strange and interesting creatures.

As Leo progresses through his journey, he realizes that true bravery comes from within and that he has had the courage all along. With newfound courage, Leo returns to the forest to confront Ziggy and save his father and the forest from his evil plan.

Although Lion of Oz is not as well-known as the original story, the movie provides a fresh and engaging take on the classic story. The animation is visually stunning, with vibrant colors and detailed character designs that bring the world of Oz to life.

The voice acting is also excellent, with Henry Beckman providing a strong and authoritative voice for Leo's father, and Dom DeLuise adding a whimsical touch to the role of Gugu. Gerard Plunkett also delivers a menacing yet comical performance as the villainous Ziggy.
