Xam'd is an anime series, written by Megumi Shimazu and Y''ichi Nomura. The series revolves around Akiyuki Takehara (Blake Shepard), a high school student who lives on Sentan Island with his mother Fusa (Kaytha Coker). Fusa and Akiyuki's father, Ryuuzou (T. Postlewait), are separated, but Akiyuki remains close with his father. Sentan Island is a peaceful island, cut off from a war going on. The calmness of the island is disrupted one day when Akiyuki and his best friends Haru Nishimura (Monica Rial) and Furuichi Teraoka (David Matranga) are involved in an explosion on a school bus. After the explosion, a mysterious light goes through Akiyuki's arm, causing him to become a creature called Xam'd. While attempting to fight a monster who is coming after him, Akiyuki is stopped by a strange girl who gives him a choice; he can either stay and turn into a stone or go with her and live.
