X is a Japanese-style animated ("anime") series based on a Japanese manga series created by Clamp, an all-woman creative team made up by Satsuki Igarashi, Nanase Ohkawa, Tsubaki Nekoi, and Mokona. Much like the manga, the series deals with themes of heroism, fate and free will in an apocalyptic end of the world scenario. Much of the mythos and settings are based on real locations throughout Japan. In the year 1999, humanity is ravaged as Armageddon approaches, with people taking different sides in Tokyo. Kamui Shiro, the young male protagonist, returns to Tokyo, having been away for six years, to take care of Kotori and Fuma Monou. Factions of superhuman fighters begin to gather as the battle at the end of the world is about to take place. As fate would have it, Fuma kills her sister Kotori, setting up Kamui and Fuma for a final fight. The series ran between October 2001 and March 2002 with a total of 24 episodes. MORE
