Worldfocus

Worldfocus was the nightly newscast dedicated to reporting on international news, With hosts Martin Savidge and now Daljit Dhaliwal. With most other major networks cutting corners and closing foreign bureaus, dropping their international news coverage and leading it to only account for just 8 percent of American news last year. Worldfocus tried to do their part to keep international coverage available, with high quality coverage and unbiased reporting of international affairs. The 30-minute broadcast brought breaking news from all over the world, with media in over 50 nations and working with some of the most respected organizations in the world. The field reporting was supplemented with studio interviews by Daljit Dhaliwal, speaking to people from academic, political, and the media worlds. Finally, the signature stories were their original content that tried to focus on deeper stories that wouldn't be usually seen on television news, such as women's changing roles, global health care, and human rights issues. The show was produced by WNET New York and syndicated across public TV stations by American Public Television. The show received Emmy nominations for segments like Crisis in Congo and 21st Century Africa. The series Crisis in Congo also took home the 2009 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for the international television category. When the show ran into fundraising difficulties, it stopped its run in April of 2010.
