Wives & Daughters is a romantic drama TV mini-series developed by BBC based on novel of the same name by Elizabeth Gaskell that centers on the young and kindhearted Molly Gibson (Justine Waddell) whose life turns upside down when her widowed town doctor father, Mr. Gibson (Bill Paterson) rashly remarries Molly's negligent former governess Hyacinth Kirkpatrick (Francesca Annis). Trying her best to get along with the ambitious and egocentric Hyacinth, Molly befriends her new ' and very dissimilar - stepsister, Cynthia (Keeley Hawes), a worldly and manipulative flirt. As Clare tries to secure Cynthia's prospects with one of the richer Hamley sons, Osborne (Tom Hollander) and Roger (Anthony Howell) before scandals from their past come to light, Molly is torn between the realities of her prospects as she could never be worth anything to the likes of the Hamley family and the hope of any potential happiness. Based on Gaskell's unfinished novel, Wives & Daughters is a beautiful look at how love can grow and secrets can come to light.MORE
