Winx Club is an extremely popular video series for children ages 5-12. Dismayed by the preponderance of children's programs aimed only at boys, Winx Club creator Iginio Straffi developed the series in 2000 as an attempt to appeal to children of both genders. The central character, Bloom (Helene Evangeliou), is a fairy living on Earth who splits her time between the Magical Dimension and the Human Dimension. Raised as a human, Bloom had no idea she was a fairy until she met Stella, an alien princess from an exotic planet called Solaria. Stella befriends Bloom and helps her leave her home (and the Human Dimension) to attend a fairy school called Alfea. There, Bloom meets the rest of the Winx Club, and the stage is set for the rest of the series. Over the course of the series these young fairies go on many dangerous, exciting adventures, discover their hidden magical powers, and fight evil forces that threaten to destroy the world.
