Wanda at Large

Wanda at Large is a multi-camera sitcom that ran on Fox from March to November, 2003. Wanda Sykes stars as Wanda Hawkins, a character very similar to herself. Wanda is a stand-up comedian who’s not afraid to speak her mind about any issue. It’s not long before a Washington D.C. talk show invites her to become a correspondent (Phil Morris, Ann Magnuson). Will Wanda’s extreme views jibe with the show’s more conservative hosts? Can Wanda balance her new career and her responsibilities of aunt and sister-in-law? Sykes created the show with help from Bruce Helford, Les Firestein, and star of “Pootie Tang” (another Sykes vehicle), Lance Crouther. Although the show was Fox’s fourth most successful program of 2006, it was cancelled after 2 seasons. Before it’s cancellation, it was moved to Friday nights at 8:30, often referred to as a “Death Slot.” Later, in an interview, Sykes said she wished the show had aired on UPN rather than Fox. MORE
