Upright Citizens Brigade

Upright Citizens Brigade is a sketch comedy television series based on one of the most successful comedy organizations of all time, the Upright Citizens Brigade. The show stars comedians Matt Besser. Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh. Unlike many other improv and sketch comedy shows, UCB refrained from relying on parodies of pop culture and impersonations of celebrities. Instead, the show established a basic premise—the UCB is an underground anarchist association with unlimited resources, attempting to create a state of chaos in the world. Each episode consisted of sketches about the group's latest subversive inventions, as well as real-world pranks where the characters interacted with real people. All this gave UCB a greater sense of cohesion than most sketch comedy shows, and each individual episode ended with a final sketch that tied that day's plot lines together. The stars of UCB have gone on to other successful projects since the UCB finale in 2000. Besser has appeared in such feature films as Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Year One, as well as on Comedy Central's fake debate series Crossballs. Poehler is the star of NBC's hit sitcom Parks and Recreation. Roberts played characters on other hit television comedies like Arrested Development and Reno: 911!, and Walsh went on to star in another Comedy Central series, Dog Bites Man. MORE
