Two Fat Ladies is a British cooking show on BBC and the Food Network, featuring the two chefs Jennifer Paterson and Clarissa Dickinson Wright. The two travel around the Great Britain on Paterson’s motorcycle, a Triumph Thunderbird, searching for recipes to add to their cooking experiences. Each episode is filmed at a different location, never on a set, from a brewery to a cathedral to an army camp. Both women are fond of strong flavors and ingredients such as anchovies, garlic, herbs, and spices are featured generously in their cooking. Other ingredients that crop up often include lard and butter, attracting some negative critical reviews from some journalists who believed the two to be bad influences on the British diet. But the show is ‘Two Fat Ladies,’ after all, and is not intended to be a health-conscious, get-thin-quick guide like ‘Skinny Bitch.’ Paterson and Dickson Wright attracted a loyal following, cooking such classes as ‘bubble and squeak,’ and Two Fat Ladies continued filming from its beginning in 1996 until 1998, when Paterson, a heavy smoker, died of lung cancer.MORE
