Tracey Ullman's State of the Union

Tracey Ullman's State of the Union is a sketch comedy series created by and starring comedian Tracey Ullman. The show focuses on spoofing all aspects of American culture, with an emphasis on politics and entertainment. In addition to portraying everyday characters, Ullman also impersonated famous celebrities, something she hadn't done on a show since her early days with the BBC. Popular impersonations included Renee Zellweger, Arianna Huffington, Barney Frank, Meghan McCain, Susan Boyle, Kate Winslet, Christiane Amanpour, Jonah Hill, and David Beckham. The sketches on State of The Union are very short, reflecting the short attention span addled YouTube generation. Some critics found this approach overwhelming, while others praised its inventiveness and breakneck speed. As with Ullman's previous forays into TV, State of the Union received several Emmy award nominations, both for Ullman's performance as well as for the makeup and hairstyling. Tracey Ullman's State of the Union concluded its run in May of 2010. MORE
