Tougher in Alaska was a short-lived History Channel program that ran from May 2008 until its cancellation in August of 2008. The premise of the show was to explore the dangers and challenges of certain jobs performed by Alaskans -- and life in general. The show was hosted by long-time Alaska resident Geo Beach, who used his 25 year experience to convey the real hardships of living and working in remote, environmentally challenged areas with rough terrain. The show also details the history of Alaska -- from the indigenous people to the arrival of others from the lower states and foreign countries. Each of the 13 episodes also showed different jobs such as railroading, logging, electric lineman, salmon fishing, gold mining, salvaging, garbage collecting, law enforcement and truck driving. Aside from the sometimes remote locations, workers must also deal with hazardous, frozen roads and highways as well as dangerous wildlife. There are also icy cold conditions, where the temperature can drop drastically and storms can develop in a matter of minutes. Although Alaska can be very dangerous, as seen on the show, it is also a very beautiful state with thousands of people relocating their every year.MORE
