The Winds of War is the TV mini-series adaptation of the book of the same name by Herman Wouk. The story follows the lives of the Henry and Jastrow families in the events leading up to the entry of the US into World War II. We see the major global events through their eyes in this epic miniseries. Following the trials of Victor Henry (Robert Mitchum), a naval officer who is sent to Germany with his family during Hitler's rise to power. Victor "Pug" Henry and his family experience the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. World politics also play a large role in the series, as Germany expands and annexes several border countries into the Reich, while Italy tries to start a Facist Colonial Empire and Japan readies for war with China. Pug's three children have their own story lines, with Warren going to Navy Flight School, Madeline getting a job in radio, and Byron working as a research assistant for expatriate Jewish author, Aaron Jastrow.
