The Starter Wife, on the USA Network, was a series based on a miniseries of the same name that aired for one season in late 2008. Starring Debra Messing as Molly Kagan, the series revolves around Molly and her daughter Jaden. Recently divorced, Molly struggles to make her way as a writer in the entertainment industry. Her ex-husband, played by David Alan Basche, frequently comes in and out of Molly's life, as she struggles to understand her feelings about his poor parenting. Also starring Judy Davis, Chris Diamantopoulos, Danielle Nicolet, Brielle Barbusca, and Hart Bochner, each of the Starter Wife episodes began with a dream sequence featuring Molly in a big Hollywood movie. As metaphors for the struggles in her life, each of the dream sequences paralleled the major turning point in each episode's storyline. Later in each of the ten episodes, Molly would again find herself in yet another Hollywood movie dream, this time usually resolving the struggles from before.
