The Scarlet Pimpernel

The Scarlet Pimpernel is an adventure drama developed by BBC based on the play and novel of Baroness Emmuska Orczy that follows one man living a double life during the beginnings of the French Revolution. In 1792, wealthy Englishman Sir Percy Blakeney (Richard Grant) was known for his vanity and foolishness. Concerned solely for his appearance and the life of court, he is considered an amusing fool by everyone, including his beautiful wife Marguerite (Elizabeth McGovern). As the bloody French Revolution strengthens, stories of a daring rescuer known as the Scarlet Pimpernel begin to spread though Percy pooh-poohs his presence. Marguerite, entranced by the idea of this hero, is pulled into a blackmail scheme with the French and has to turn to her husband, only to realize that he is the Scarlet Pimpernel! The Scarlet Pimpernel is a wild heroic drama looking at the intricacies of intrigue, double lives, and deception. MORE
