The Rifleman is the ABC Western TV series about homesteader Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) and his son Mark McCain (Johnny Crawford), as they live on a ranch in the 1880s in the fictitious town of North Fork, New Mexico. After winning a turkey shoot contest, Lucas buys a ranch, and dedicates his time to rearing his son. The widower struggles to run the household, while Marshall Micah Torrance struggles to rid North Fork of the continuous stream of bad guys. Lucas, a killer shot, must sometimes break out his rifle to protect his home, son, and neighbors. His rifle was special, a modified Winchester that allowed him to cock it by twirling it in a circle, with a custom pin system that allowed him to rapid-fire the rifle. A former professional basketball and baseball player, Connors was athletic and nimble, and was able to perform impressive gun tricks as Lucas McCain.
