The Real King's Speech

The Real King's Speech is the Discovery Channel series that examines the real story of George VI. Discovery explores the story that inspired the Oscar-winning film The King's Speech in this documentary series about George VI, known as "the reluctant King". After his brother renounced the throne, he inherited it, and the pressure of being King was tough for the shy man. The first king in the age of mass media, George was expected to take to the airwaves and speak to millions of people, but his stammer and fear of public speaking made it extremely difficult. Through years of unorthodox speech therapy, he was finally able to overcome his stammer and be the King he needed to be. Now his story is being told again in this one-hour special about the king who had to overcome the odds to speak to millions.
