The Pretender is a dramatic TV series developed by NBC that centers on Jarod (Michael T. Weiss), a genius and a Pretender, someone whose intelligence allows them to become anyone they want to be in any line of work, as he searches the United States for clues and hints to his true identity after escaping from a think tank called the Centre. As a young child, Jarod had been abducted only to be given sets of tasks and simulations by his mentor Sydney (Patrick Bauchau). Now on the run, Jarod poses as anyone he needs to be in order to help those in trouble, dispensing justice as a one-man vigilante, atoning for any crimes he inadvertently committed during his “tests”. As he works to right the wrongs, Centre operatives led by Miss Parker (Andrea Parker), an agent who has only known a life as a child of the Centre, Sydney, who maintains contact with Jarod, and Broots (Jon Gries), a hapless computer genius. As Miss Parker tries her hardest to recapture the think tank’s biggest asset, Jarod manages to evade her grasps while picking up pieces of his past.
