The Philanthropist

The Philanthropist is the NBC action series that follows billionaire playboy Teddy Rist (James Purefoy) as he tries to turn his life around and help others, becoming a vigilante philanthropist. After the British-American billionaire loses his son, he is haunted by the death of his only child. When he witnesses an extreme flood in Nigeria and saves a young boy, he decides to dedicate his wealth to helping the lives of others. Teddy travels the world using his corporate power, money, and passion to help those in need, risking dangerous situations on a mission to fight his inner demons. Teddy tries his best to help people get organ transplants, free themselves from the sex trade, and bring commerce and food to impoverished locations. His exploits often put him and his loved ones and friends in danger, getting friends kidnapped and involved in Ponzi schemes. Loosely based on the life of Bobby Sager, who started his own charity organizations, the show follows the action and drama of the life of Teddy Rist as he tries to leave his playboy ways to become The Philanthropist.
