NAACP Image Awards is the annual award show presented by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which honors outstanding people of color. The NAACP was formed in 1909 with the mission "to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination." Since it's inception it has become one of the most influential civil rights groups in the U.S. In 1967 they held their first award presentation, giving awards to people of color in film, television, music and literature. The show became nationally televised in 1974, and aired live for the first time in 2007 during the 38th NAACP Image Awards. With awards for actors and actresses in motion picture and television, as well as music and literature of many genres, the awards also features special awards like the Hall of Fame Award, and the Entertainer of the Year Award. The show has been hosted by legendary entertainers like Chris Tucker, Cedric the Entertainer, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and many more.
