The League

The League follows a group of grown men whose main retreat from the issues of adulthood is their fantasy football league. The show is semi-improvisational; similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm. The members of the league are longtime friends living in Chicago and going through different phases of life, from perpetually single to married with children. Yet outside of their responsibilities, they are overgrown children whose concerns consist of sports, sex, ragging on each other, and winning the all-important Shiva, the trophy given to the winner of the league. The show roughly centers on the life of Pete, the defending champ, who begins the series by breaking up with his wife over an argument about an old shirt and her objection to his participation in the League. The other friends include Kevin, Pete's longtime best friend whose wife involvement with his fantasy team is a source of emasculation; Kevin's brother Taco, a spacey musician whose ease at having sex is the envy of his married friends; Ruxin, a foul-mouthed lawyer who is constantly frustrated that his wife won't have sex with him after the birth of their first child; and Andre, whose metrosexuality and lack of sports knowledge make him the butt of all jokes. While fantasy football is a central tenant of the show, viewers do not need any type of extensive knowledge of the NFL to enjoy the show. Sports fans will appreciate the sports jokes spread throughout each episode and the cameos by former and current NFL players. The League's first season consists of six episodes which aired on FX, and the show has been renewed for a second 13 episode season. MORE
