The Jay Leno Show was a primetime talk-show created by NBC and hosted by former Tonight Show host Jay Leno. After deciding to make Conan O’Brien the heir to Leno’s “Tonight Show” throne, NBC felt the need to keep Jay Leno on the roster. The Jay Leno Show was the result; a new, primetime talk show that tossed Jay’s old set, format, and even couch out of the window. In their place stood Leno’s new easy-chair, car-themed set and casual format. Jay brought his beloved “Jaywalking” and “Headlines” bits with him, while also adding segments such as “Stuff We Found on eBay” and “Ten at Ten,” where Jay asks questions to an interviewee via satellite, to his repertoire. Leno’s monologue and celebrity interviews were also featured, but this time he only interviewed one or two guests per show. Unfortunately, The Jay Leno Show was met with almost universal critical disapproval. Entertainment weekly dubbed the show television’s “Biggest Bust of All Time”, while the Associated Press noted “it’s not a good sign when the Bud Light commercial is funnier than the comedy show it interrupts.” After only a few months, The Jay Leno Show was canceled and NBC moved Leno back to his old Tonight Show position, forcing out Conan O’Brien in the process.MORE
