The Comic Strip

The Comic Strip is a sketch comedy series starring the eponymous British comedy team, featuring acclaimed writers and actors like Adrian Edmondson, Dawn French, Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer, Peter Richardson, and Jennifer Saunders in a collection of absurd and surreal sketches. This sketch group follows in the tradition of previous British comedy icons Monty Python. Their broadcast television series, The Comic Strip Presents, aired its first episode on the opening night of the UK's Channel 4 in 1982. The series aired for five seasons and forty-one episodes between that opening night and the final show in 2005, a period that included long hiatuses while the actors pursued other endeavors. Despite the occasional breaks, the series proved to be a massive hit and eventually moved to BBC2 in 1990. The Comic Strip is a series of hilarious sketches that feature a regular cast of talented comedians as well as a long list of celebrity guests that includes Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, and Ozzy Osbourne.
