The Colgate Comedy Hour with Abbott & Costello is the comedy and music variety show hosted by the legendary comic duo Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. The Colgate Comedy Hour ran from 1950 to 1955 on NBC, evolving from NBC's first TV variety showcase Four Star Revue. The show was hosted by four rotating comedians, going head to head with Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town. Colgate-Palmolive sponsored the show, with $3 million in the first year, and the show was a huge success, thanks to the hilarious hosts. The show featured comedy, music, guests and more. Hosts Abbott and Costello performed together on stage, radio, film and television, making them the most popular comedy duo in the 1940's as well as a huge success in the box office. The duo got their start int he burlesque scene, eventually moving into radio, Broadway, and film.
