The Book Group

The Book Group is a two-time BAFTA Award-winning sitcom from the United Kingdom's Channel 4 and creator Annie Griffin that stars Anne Dudek, Rory McCann, Derek Riddell, and Michelle Gomez in a story about an American woman living in Glasgow who starts a book club to make new friends and winds up with so much more. Anne Dudek plays Clare Pettengill, an American who has recently moved to Glasow, Scotland. Since leaving the States she has felt like a fish out of water, without any friends or romances in her new hometown. Since Clare is a classic bookworm and a proud intellectual, she decides to start a book club in the hopes that it might introduce her to some like-minded Glaswegians. However, after their first meeting it becomes clear that Clare's new friends won't be the high-minded, socially reserved types she had hoped to encounter. Instead, she winds up with a timid disabled man who dreams of being a writer, a closeted bisexual who can't be honest about himself, and three wealthy footballer's wives who have nothing better to do with their time but share their inane musings about books with Clare.
