The Bill Cosby Show is the NBC sitcom starring Bill Cosby as Chet Kincaid. Kincaid lives in Los Angeles, working as a physical education teacher at a high school. He is a bachelor and just trying to make ends meet while helping people. He sometimes was asked to substitute for classes, filling in as an algebra or English teacher, and even filling in as the driver's education instructor, where the nervous student driver accidentally knocked him into the trunk and drove around with him in it. The lighthearted sitcom was warm and intelligent, showing stories about the characters, rather than the sight-gags and laugh tracks of many of the sitcoms of the time. The situations were imaginative but plausible, with Kincaid going on missions to find a needle valve for blowing up balls and trying to borrow a vehicle for a big date. The show was also the first to be named after it's African American star. Bill later went on to create the classic cartoon series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and in the 1980s he created and starred in the decade defining sitcom where he took on fatherhood, The Cosby Show.MORE
