The Alzheimer’s Project is a documentary film developed by HBO’s award-winning documentary team as it follows the struggles and discoveries of the medical community and the affected families of those with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a devastating disorder affecting nearly five million Americans as the progressive and incurable brain disorder robs individuals of their memories and lucidity. With no cure, scientific research and families alike can only hope for treatment and prevention. The Alzheimer’s Project is a four-part documentary series with a multimedia approach of fifteen supplemental films, an informative website, and a nationwide community-based information and outreach campaign. The project itself focuses on four films – The Memory Loss Tapes, Maria Shriver’s Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?, Momentum in Science, and Caregivers. In “The Memory Loss Tapes”, experience the spectrum and progression of this disease with a personal look at seven individuals living with the disease. Maria Shriver’s “Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?” is a look at what it is like to be a family member on the sidelines, watching the sometimes slow, sometimes quick downslide of a parent or grandparent with Alzheimer’s. In “Momentum in Science”, take a scientific look at the most updated and top of the field research labs and clinics as the twenty-five leading scientist and doctors work hard to find a cure or a working treatment. “Caregivers” is a heart-wrenching yet inspiring look at what it takes to experience a loved one’s struggle with dementia and Alzheimer’s as they struggle with their own lives.MORE
