Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment is a reality television series from the Discovery Channel that was produced by Pilgrim Films. This life-changing series takes nine contestants on the challenge of a lifetime. These nine brave men and women must relinquish their comforts of home and civilization and enter one of the world's most grueling environments and hunt for food, scope out shelter, come face to face with the lands natural animal inhabitants and survive inside the Alaskan interior. At the end of the challenge, the contestants' reward is satisfaction for surviving the rigid Alaskan frontier and getting ÔOut of the Wild' through this life-changing expedition. At the end of the season one finale, only four of the original nine people remained. The last four were given a map taking them on a fourteen-mile trek to reach their next destination. After they completed the first mile they came to railroad tracks that showed evidence that they were still in use. They took a chance and waited to see if they could catch a passing train.
