The Addams Family

The Addams family is a sitcom based on a series of "New Yorker" cartoons by Charles Addams in the 1940's. The cartoons featured the life of a dark, morbid family whose actions were ran contrary to society's bright and cheery values. The show was no different, the comedy coming from introducing "normal people" to the family and seeing their reactions. The family's patriarch, Gomez, is a businessman whose two passions are his wife, Morticia, and destruction. Morticia, a beautiful, dark, serious figure keeps the peace in a house full of crazy people. Uncle Fester, Morticia's insane uncle takes pleasure in freaking out houseguests and using his mouth to power lightbulbs. The children, Pugsley and Wednesday, are good little children, but pass their time with the most off-putting hobbies. Off course, there's also Lurch, the seven foot tall butler, Thing, a disembodied hand, and Cousin Itt, a creature covered with hair who speaks in squeaks. The show ran on ABC from September 18th,1964 to September 2nd, 1966. While it never beat it's main competitor, the Munsters, in the ratings, The Addams Family spawned two theatrical releases in the 1990's and has a theme song that has stood the test of time. MORE
