The Academy

The Academy is a reality television series that ran from May 2007 to June 2008 on Fox Reality. The show provides a behind the scenes look at the police recruits of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy as they undertake a rigorous 18 week training program to get them ready to hit the streets in search of crime to conquer. West Coast criminals, like those anywhere, are not known for being soft or submitting easily to verbal persuasion, and thus the course is not easy, either. In order to prepare the aspiring officers for the real world and the hard cases out there, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy is even tougher, if possible, and starting at the Academy far from guarantees graduating from the Academy. Viewer have the unique change to follow along as over 100 recruits get whittled down to a smaller and smaller group as individuals leave due to personal choice, the stress of the program, injury, or their trainers’ perception of their ability as not great enough to rise to the challenge.
