That's Black Entertainment

That's Black Entertainment is a retrospective dealing with African-American contributions to early American films. Host Mario Van Peebles presents three films that showcase the talents of African-American actors: Boarding House Blues (released in 1948), Jericho (1937), and The Bronze Buckaroo (1939). These films were created by the black cinema industry that had developed during the 1920's; this industry provided gifted African-Americans with opportunities to perform in high-quality films during the decades when segregation laws and racist societal attitudes prevented most black actors from appearing in white films. That's Black Entertainment features Herbert Jeffrey, Ossie Davis, Paul Robeson, and many other brilliant black thespians who were largely ignored by white society during large portions of their cinematic careers. This series should not be missed by anyone interested in the history of American film during the first half of the 20th century.
