Strangers with Candy

Strangers with Candy is the Comedy Central that follows 46 year old dropout Jerri Blank (Amy Sedaris) as she returns to high school, joining faculty like history teacher Chuck Noblet (Stephen Colbert) and students like Tammi Littlenut (Maria Thayer) at Flatpoint High School. Jerri dropped out of school and ran away from home, becoming "a boozer, a user, and a loser" developing bad habits and supporting them by selling her body and committing larceny. After several trips to prison, she heads back to high school to get her diploma. Jerri discovers that all the faces are different, and tries to fit in with the hip girls that are a third of her age. Her bad habits remain, and her lack of ethics and bizarre family make it tough for her to interact with the high school crowd. Jerri always learns a moral lesson, though they are usually amoral or warped, like when Jerri decides it's acceptable to be anorexic because it get's attention. The show became a cult hit, leading to a movie adaptation that was released in 2006. MORE
