Step By Step

Step By Step is a sitcom from the 90s airing on ABC and then CBS about the merging of two families when divorced contractor Frank Lambert (Patrick Duffy) impulsively marries widowed beautician Carol Foster (Suzanne Somers) when both Port Washington natives are on vacation in Jamaica and their respective children suddenly find themselves part of a giant stepfamily. Frank and Carol have three children each- the Fosters are Dana (Staci Keanan), an intelligent perfectionist who clashes with the Lambert kids, Karen (Angela Watson), an aspiring model, vain but occasionally the voice of reason, and Mark (Christopher Castile), an academic nerd. The Lambert kids are J.T. (Brandon Call), an academically struggling jock, Alicia (Christine Larkin), a tomboyish all-American girl, and Brendan (Josh Byrne), a shy kid. The Foster-Lamert family tries to get along as they get to know each other, but with so many personalities under one roof, its often an impossibility. Over the show's seven seasons, the characters dynamics and relationships with each other change, as they all grow and evolve as individuals as well. Although the adjustments never stop happening, later episodes focus on the kids more independently from their new siblings, dealing with the trials and tribulations of growing up, especially in such a large family.
