Static Shock is an animated fantasy TV series developed by Warner Bros. Animation, based on the DC comics’ superhero Virgil Ovid Hawkins, aka Static, which centers on a teenaged Virgil who had once been an average high school student in the city of Dakota. When an experimental mutagen is spread in an event known as the Big Bang, quick-witted Virgil is one of many considered “Bang Babies”, people whose exposure to the gas has caused them to gain mutations and abilities. Under the guise of Static, Virgil uses his new ability to control and manipulate electromagnetism to fight against the harsh and criminal ways of the other Bang Babies. His best friend and super genius Richie Foley is in on his secret identity and provides Static with gadgets and backup. Though his father clumps Static in with the rest of the destructive Bang Babies and his sister unknowingly dates former gang member and mutated Adam Evans, Virgil tries to balance his life as a high school student and as a superhero worthy of the Justice League.
