Stargate Atlantis

Stargate Atlantis is a military science fiction TV series developed by the Syfy channel as a spin-off to the immensely popular Stargate SG-1 that follows the journey and trials of a new international team sent by Stargate Command through a new stargate found in the Antarctic The new gate appears to be the first doorway used by the Ancients, advanced, mysterious, and highly evolved beings, to travel to Earth from their original home, the mythical city of Atlantis on the planet Lantea, in the Pegasus Galaxy. Atlantis had been built millions of years ago when a plague threatened to wipe out the Milky Way Galaxy, causing the Ancients to begin the colonization of other worlds beyond Earth. Recognizing the vast potential of supremely advanced technology, Stargate Command decides to reach out to this new galaxy. Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson), a diplomat and expert in international politics who strives to make SGA more about diplomacy than military dominance, commands the post and watches over the team composed of Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), a laid-back leader who can instinctively use Ancient technology; Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), a cynical, arrogant, and very wound-up scientific genius; Teyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell), a native Athosian fighter; and Dr. Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion), a loveable Scottish medicinal doctor. The team is later joined by Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite). The SGA’s goal to explore the Pegasus Galaxy came at a cost as their appearance awaken the Ancients’ long-time enemy, the Wraiths, vampire-like creatures that feed on humans. Later, a familiar threat from SG-1, the artificial Replicators, hopes to take Atlantis back as their rightful home. Stargate Atlantis is considered part of the Stargate franchise and is as equally popular as its sister-show. MORE
