Space Rangers

Space Rangers was a short-lived science fiction series that aired on CBS in 1993. The entire series run, all six episodes, takes place in the year 2104 on a distant Earth colony on the planet of Avalon. Several light-weeks from Earth’s central command, Fort Hope is protected by Captain John Boon (Jeff Kaake) and his Space Rangers Corps. Boon and the Rangers of Slingship 377 patrol the area, hunting Banshees, a dastardly race of space predators, fighting Hobbaba criminal syndicates, and in one episode, the Rangers are so desperate to escape the pleasantries of a dress rehearsal for a visiting general that they endeavor to rescue a has-been comedian who’s crash landed on a dangerous prison planet. Along with Jeff Kaake’s Captain Boon, the cast included Marjorie Monaghan (Babylon 5) as Jojo, Jack McGee (Rescue Me) as Doc, and the tiny and talented Linda Hunt (NCIS: LA, The Practice) as Commander Chennault.
