Space: Above and Beyond

Space: Above and Beyond, a well-loved, but short-lived series that originally aired on FOX, is set in the year 2063, where humanity is embroiled in a costly space conflict with an alien species known as the Chigs. The Chig War, having begun with a cowardly sneak attack on human forces, has not gone well for humanity. By 2063, a coalition of United Nations forces desperately clings to control of its various extra-terrestrial colonies, as they are increasingly bombarded with Chig encroachment, and open rebellion from an artificial race of machines known as the Sillicates. The central focus of the series is the space carrier USS Saratoga, and the 58th Space Aviator Cavalry, known as the Wildcards, The pilots of the Wildcard squadron, led by Nathan West (Morgan Weisser) and Shane Vansen (Kristen Cloke), callsigns “King of Hearts” and “Ace of Diamonds” respectively, fly their Hammerhead fighter jets into a near-daily dogfights with Chig warships in the vacuum of space. From the producers of the X-Files, the series stood out for its stark realism, unforgiving tone, and what were at the time top notch special affects. MORE
