Skins

Skins is a British teen drama on BBC. The show revolves around the lives of a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England who are going through their two years of sixth form. The show is known for casting young writers and amateur actors, all of which are replaced every two seasons, when they leave sixth form. The father son duo that created Skins, Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, aims to take on a wide array of the issues that British teenagers face, and does not shy away from even such controversial topics as eating disorders, homosexuality, dysfunctional families, mental illness, and death. Although the storylines are always changing and the cast is never the same for more than two seasons in a row, the constants of the show are its well-thought out, meaningful storylines and the diversity of its cast. These are perhaps the factors that make Skins a favorite show for British teenagers and have led to the honors of a Best Drama Prize in 2008, the 2007 Royal Television Society Awards’ Best Production Design Award, and several other nominations and awards.
