Six Feet Under

Six Feet Under is a drama that aired on HBO from 2001 to 2005 and focused on the lives of the Fishers, a family suffering from the recent loss of their father and husband, Nathaniel Fisher Sr (Richard Jenkins). Oldest son Nate Fisher Jr (Peter Krause) returns home to help his brother, David Fisher (Michael C. Hall) run the family's funeral home in Los Angeles, California. Together with his mother, Ruth Fisher (Frances Conroy) and teenage sister, Claire Fisher (Lauren Ambrose), Nate must find a way to come to terms with the death of his father and his new role as the head of the household. Other recurring characters include Nate's girlfriend, Brenda Chenowith (Rachel Griffiths), David's long-term boyfriend, Keith Charles (Matthew St. Patrick), and funeral home employee, Federico Diaz (Freddy Rodriguez). At its core, Six Feet Under is a family drama; these friends and siblings face death, love, disloyalty, and all kinds of personal dilemmas together. Life's unexpected twists and turns break them apart and ultimately bring them back together again. Each episode is also framed around the death of a stranger who will become a client for the Fisher's funeral home. Through these story lines, Six Feet Under takes a close look at death and mortality, and the characters are often able to reflect on their own problems by analyzing the deaths of others.
