Shark Week

Shark Week is the popular week long shark-centric series of programing, aired annually on the Discovery Channel. Often aired either July or August, Discovery Channel's usual list of educational shows get a jaws-sized makeover. Each show (such as explosively popular Mythbusters) explore common misconceptions about the various types of these sea predators. The annual event first started in 1987, but only started having hosts introduce each segment in 2003. In 2010, the host is scheduled to be Late Late Show's funny man Craig Ferguson. Peoples' fascination with sharks, and fear of them, reached new heights after Steven Speilberg's 1975 thriller "Jaws", and thus Shark Week captures a large loyal following each year, while often decriminalizing the over 300 species of sharks in the world - advertising facts such as "you are more likely to be bitten by another person than a shark" and "Humans are the shark's biggest predator".
