Sekirei is a Japanese-style animated ("anime") series based on the eponymous manga series by Sakurako Gokurakuin. The story focused on Minato Sahashi, a ronin who is trying to get into college, having failed twice. Set in Tokyo in the year 2020, Minato is battling with his intense social awkwardness that makes him come off as inept, unproductive and a general failure. This all changes one day when a girl named Musubi falls from grace into Minato's lap. She is a Sekirei, which are searching for their Ashikabi, or human they are meant to connect with. Minato is Musubi's Ashikabi. Minato is thrown into a world where he and Musubi must battle other Sekirei with their combined powers. These battles between Sekirei are known as "The Game" or "Sekirei Plan," the purpose of which is unknown.
