seaQuest DSV is a science fiction series that aired on NBC from 1993 to 1996 The show was set in the near future with most of the action taking place on the high-tech submarine seaQuest DSV 4600. Roy Scheider (Jaws) starred as Nathan Bridger, the captain of the vessel. Jonathan Brandis (Ladybugs) co-starred as Lucas Wolenczak, a computer prodigy. Behind the scenes drama caused seaQuest DSV to change its style quite drastically between seasons. After a first season cliffhanger which saw Bridger sacrifice the seaQuest in order to prevent an ecological disaster, the majority of season two's stories were more science-fiction oriented than its predecessor. Aliens, time-travel, genetic engineering and parapsychology are just a few themes explored in what critics at the time felt was a decline in the show's quality. Gone were seaQuests DSV's socially conscious episodes dealing with ocean preservation, ecology, and advances in real technology. The third season of seaQuest DSV took place even farther in the future, with only three original cast members staying on until it was canceled.MORE
