Samurai Jack is an animated television series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. The series follows Jack, a samurai who is training to defeat the evil Aku in Feudal Japan. Aku is a magical demon who has destroyed Jack's father's empire. When Jack finally achieves the abilities needed to challenge Aku they have a showdown. As Jack is about to prevail, Aku creates a time portal and sends Jack forward into a distant dystopian future. In this future, Aku is still the ruler of the world and has amassed an army of robots to keep his reign intact. Jack is a name given to the hero by people throughout the series as a slang term, but he adopts it as his new name.
