Samantha Who?

Samantha Who? is a television sitcom on NBC about Samantha Newly (Christina Applegate), a 30-year-old VP of a real estate firm who is hit by a car and develops retrograde amnesia, meaning she can function in everyday life but remembers nothing from before the accident. While a tragedy for most people, Samantha goes about rediscovering who she was through a series of clues and learns that maybe its better that she doesn’t remember who she was before the accident, because as it turns out, she was kind of a jerk. Formerly selfish and unkind, post-accident Sam wants to develops a better relationship with her parents, Howard (Kevin Dunn) and Regina (Jean Smart), act like a better friend to Andrea (Jennifer Esposito) and Dena (Melissa McCarthy), and put more effort into her on-and-off relationship with roommate and ex-boyfriend Todd (Barry Watson). Things turn out to be even worse than she thought when she discovers that she cheated on Todd with a married man, the parents who were by the side of her hospital bed have been estranged from her for years, and she’s actually been out of touch with Dena since seventh grade. Best friend Andrea is hiding a lot of Samantha’s past from her with potentially dangerous consequences. Door man Frank (Tim Russ), previously treated by Samantha much like a piece of furniture would be, is shocked when she says hi to him one day, and reveals that he is the most observant person she encounters, particularly as he witnesses “new Sam” vs. “old Sam.” Pieces of Sam’s former personality begin to break through and she must discover who she really is- a mean and self-centered person, or the well-intentioned woman she’s trying to become?
